Dougste posted two lovely panoramic images taken with the Canon G11.

“I have almost always used Canon P&S and the G11 is the very best I have used. Only had it two days, but love the shots and how it handles.” (dougste)

A few image samples showing the abilities of the Canon G11 at night. These are taken with ISO 80, 200 & 800.

“These are a few night shots taken on a recent trip to Ghent. All are handheld straight out of camera JPEGS. The only PP is straightening & cropping.” (Stephenbw)

This fly’s macro shot was taken as a test to check Macro Mode of the G11. Lighting conditions were not great. Shaded stairway outside. The G11 suggested ISO500 1/60  f2.8 for other shots at that spot.

That shot was taken using these settings: Focal Length: 15.673mm. Exposure time: 1/30 s. Aperture: F/3.5 ISO200. Camera was handheld, no tripod, no flash.

First photo is 50% crop of the original. As you go towards the 100% you see more defects.

IMG_0807-rawEdit50CropNext is the 100% crop, and lastly the full frame.

The Canon G11 is equipped with hotshoe, which means you can attach an external flash to get more illumination for your photographs.

This comparison was made by Jerrich taking the same photograph with and without the Canon 270EX flash. The other photograph was taken under window light.

The G11 turns out to be a wonderful camera for scuba diving. These are great underwater shots by hetland with Canon PowerShot G11 and a single Inon D2000 strobe.

“Taken with G11 in Canon housing. I use a single Inon D2000 strobe. These are all jpgs straight from the camera. The only post processing I did was crop and then re-size for posting. These were all taken Thanksgiving weekend in Pensacola (Florida) waters.” (hetland)

Robbert100 posted quality macro samples taken with Canon PowerShot G11.

Notice that the first macro shot (to the left)  is a  ISO 800 image. Pretty impressive for such a high ISO.

“Today was my first day playing with the G11 (and a Nikon 6T diopter and Lensmate adapter and some speedlites, including the MT 24EX twin flash)” (Robbert100)

A few sharp image samples taken with the Canon PowerShot G11 by brick33308. Photos of growing things and a kitty.

Is it worth keeping the Canon G11 over the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 (having a micro four thirds sensor)?

“I’d been looking for reasons to get rid of the G11 in favor of the GF1. However, I’ve looked at all the GF1 posted pics, and none of them seem any better than what I’m getting out of my G11. And of course it’s great having the articulating LCD and zoom range of the G11. The G11 has really grown on me, so I’ll be hanging on to it.” (brick33308)

Another review & image samples posted by a photographer. Patrick Dean published on NeutralDay a small review of the Canon PowerShot G11 along with ISO samples 80 – 3200 and some nice image samples.

Canon-G11-Patrick-Dean

“I’ve always been a reluctant fan of the G Series from Canon. I can’t help but to admire their tank-like build and pro sensibilities, but the paradox of having such big camera (for a compact) with such a small sensor has always been confounding to me. I’m still confounded with the latest entry, the PowerShot G11, but I’m enjoying it too much to really care.” (Patrick Dean)

HDR photography (or HDRI) stands for High Dynamic Range Imaging.  HDR is a set of techniques allowing a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image.

You can produce HDR images by merging multiple photographs using a computer software. Bascially you take the same photograph with different camera settings several times, then merge them using your computer.

Billydee55 has published three samples of HDR photographs taken with the Canon G11.

Laurence Kim published a three-parts, less technical, review that shows the greatness of the Canon PowerShot G11.

Part I – Low light capabilities of the G11 using high ISO levels

Laurance-Kim-G11-Low-Light

“I could be wrong because I’m really not much of a pixel-peeper, but I’d estimate that the noise is slightly more than 1 stop worse than my 20D and a bit more than 1 stop better than my LX3. Nikonians might take issue with this, but I’d say the noise is about equal to the Nikon D200, which was Nikon’s top pro-sumer DSLR only, what, 2 years ago? I can make this claim because I’ve seen thousands of D200 files taken under low light by 2nd shooters I’ve worked with at weddings.” (Laurence Kim) Click to read the rest

Part II – Macro shots using the Canon G11

Laurance-Kim-G11-Macro

“My opinion is unchanged:  a high quality point ‘n shoot like the G11 is your best tool for macros. Every shot I took was perfectly in focus and tack sharp.” (Laurence Kim) Click to read the rest

Part III – Shooting portraits using the Canon G11

“Landscapes, macro or portraits, there’s really nothing this camera can’t do. Detail is amazing. Any one of these images would have sufficient detail to print a double truck magazine ad, no problem. In short, the G11 is the best small-sensor compact on the market today.” (Laurence Kim) Click to read the rest

This is one of the first reviews showing what a professional photographer can do with the Canon G11.

Andrew Cooper from A Darker View published one of the first underwater dive reviews using the Canon PowerShot G11 and the Canon WP-DC34 . Images seem to be sharp and acceptable. In the meantime you’ll have to settle with the three images published.

darker-view-scuba-review

“The photos could be better. There are a few lessons I learned during the dive, settings I will need to experiment with to improve performance. I need to experiment with focus modes. I was using fully automatic mode, and expect that many of the frames I was taking could be improved with better control of depth of field and aperture priority mode. I also need to setup the external Sea&Sea YS110 strobe to provide better illumination. With these lessons and better lighting I hope to achieve even more impressive results.” (Andrew Cooper, Darker View)
